Tapping the Intuitive

June 28th - July 29th

An exhibition of new works on paper by Daniel Nevins in conjunction with his June 30th FIRST DRAFT talk.

"My latest work is a continuation and deepening of a path that I embarked upon in 2009; a move away from narrative work. It’s what I call “tapping the intuitive”. It’s an exercise in approaching the blank canvas with little or no thought of the image to be rendered. It’s a way of getting out of my head. I simply act and react to the previous mark that was made. Ordinary thought patterns are discouraged. I find that it can take some effort to move through the weight of social conditioning and access the gifts of the subconscious, but the effort is rewarded with images I can find in no other way." - Daniel Nevins

Daniel Nevins grew up in Florida and southern California. Since earning his BA in graphic design from the University of Florida, he has worked as a designer, an illustrator, and a fine artist.  His paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums across the U.S. and he has been a mainstay in the Asheville art scene for the past 20 years.  His work has been featured in publications as diverse as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Hi-Fructose magazine.  In 2012, he was awarded a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship Grant.

REVOLVE will host a series of events during the run of the exhibition - please check back with us as we add programming.  Our first event will be both a reception for the exhibition and Nevins' entry in our  FIRST DRAFT series on Thursday June 30th.
