Gallery Nomads: Asheville
"Gallery Nomads: Asheville is the newest of GreenHill's exhibitions highlighting NC's regional art centers. Five Asheville spaces will set up camp all summer in the Gallery at GreenHill and present an exhibition of their choosing in 500 sq ft of space. Five of Asheville's most innovative art spaces are participating: Blue Spiral 1, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, Asheville Bookworks, Pink Dog Creative, and REVOLVE." - from GreenHill statement
When asked to participate in Green Hill’s Gallery Nomads program, we thought how we best could highlight what occurs at REVOLVE. While we exhibit and promote visual art via our project space - we host a variety of dialogues and ideas via our FIRST DRAFT series and experimental musics nights. Instead of trying to represent all we do - we decided to show artists that have been instrumental in supporting our programming and ability to keep our artist - run doors open. Workingman Collective (based in Cullowhee, NC and Washington, D.C.) with their dynamic piece Satellite, set the immediate metaphorical tone for what REVOLVE achieves to generate - to be a hub and conduit of activity across disciplines. The remaining creatives all encapsulate what we at REVOLVE support: CRAFT as mindset as well as practice. We believe that extends to not only the making but the thinking and dialogue that generates community.
